Call for Work: Creature Common Space

Creature Common Space offers a platform for emerging dance and movement artists based in NYC to create and debut new work in a collaborative, intimate, performance setting.

We are seeking four emerging/semi-established choreographic works to present in our summer Common Space series. Two artists will be selected for each block.

Our goal is to provide a professional performance opportunity with equitable access to resources. We aim to support work that has a fresh, unique quality, one that is inherently creative and original

August 29 - 31

Applicants must designate whether they’d like to submit for both weekends or just one.

    • 20 hours of rehearsal space at Creature Space, plus additional tech rehearsals

  • April 30th:
    Recipients will receive an offer via email with next steps.

    Bi-Monthly Meetings:
    Check-in meetings will be held every other week with Company Manager, Liz Westbrook. These meetings provide an opportunity for artists to book rehearsal time using their complimentary 20 hours.

    July 14th & August 18th:
    Two weeks before the assigned show dates, Company Manager Liz Westbrook will meet with artists to gather technical information and schedule a private technical rehearsal with Technical Director Marco Sanchez. This includes lighting, props, microphones, etc.

    Week of Show:
    A final run of the bill will be conducted with all technical elements.

  • Applicants are applying for one of two Common Space opportunities during the summer. Applicants must be available for all selected dates.

    To be considered, artists must be actively engaged in the creation of a new work (20-25 minutes in length) intended for its debut in the Creature Common Space. The work should not have been presented in its entirety before this opportunity.

    The selection process will be conducted by a panel of creative collaborators who will review the submissions.

  • This opportunity is non-paid. However, we provide the following resources to support the artists:

    • Full marketing

    • Technical director

    • Technical elements (lighting, props, microphones, etc.)

    • Stage manager

    • 20 hours of rehearsal space

    • Box office management

    • Video documentation of the performance

    • Additional support

    Ticket sales will go to Creature Space to help sustain this program. We are committed to supporting the creation of new work!
